well if its hot in the summer, you may want to plant some trees. Go to your nursery and let them know what kind of plants you want…Some preferences may include what type of animals, insects they attract, which blossom in what season, etc. What about a patio, a spa…etc..

My pool is total sun also. I have no grass in the backyard at all. Around the pool I have planted various varieties or yuccas and cactus. I have dark red landscape lava rock all around. I took several trips out to west Texas and picked up many small rocks. Anywhere from 5-30 lbs. I have them scattered about the area. The area needs very little watering in the summer months. Everything is growing well. Many of the yuccas are blooming and the cactus are getting ready to bloom. The flowers are gorgeous. There were bushes around the pool when I moved in. They had to go. Too much work. There were also bushes in front of the house. I had all those dug out and did the same except I used white landscape gravel. Looks great and is soooooo easy to maintain. Good luck and have fun!!!!

To save $, buy annual seeds now. Plant them in egg cartons, yogurt cups, etc. they should be ready to plant outdoors by end of May/ beginning June.
Put them in large pots all over your pool area. They will be blooming by party time!
Great ones for sun: marigolds, zinnias, geraniums, allysum

You can go to local nursery and buy daylilies, alot of colors available and bicolors buy reblooming type like Stella De Oro, Strawberry Candy, Little Business, On and On. Don’t buy bareroot daylilies cause they will not bloom the first year.
For more flowers, buy petunia in hanging basket and some plants in pots (Lilies, Marigold, Salvia, Zinnia, Coleus) that ready to bloom or still blooming from your local nursery closer to July. Replant them in big planters group together. This will guarantee you with flowers for the event.
